    Trying to uncover the history of the American mountain (or Appalachian) dulcimer is like digging up dinosaur bones. Early in the history of the United States, the Germans made the first wave of immigrants, bringing their folk ways with them, including the scheitholt: an instrument with a long oblong box shape and the strings stretched across the top sound board.
